Do all students receive the same financial benefit?
No, the scholarship benefit is pro-rated based on the student’s length of attendance in public school using the following scale:

chart

The length of attendance is the total number of full years a student attended public school while living in the city of Peoria as verified through school records.  The % is the amount of tuition reduction that will be applied to the student’s ICC account.

* Please note: Each student is eligible for a maximum of 12 credit hours per semester.  The length of attendance benefit will still be applied.  For example: If a student chooses to take 15 credit hours and has a length of attendance of 11 years, Peoria Promise will cover 90% of 12 credit hours.  The student will then be responsible for 10% of 12 hours and 100% of the remaining 3 hours.

What if I am not covered for a 100% attendance benefit?
You are responsible for the percentage of your balance remaining after Peoria Promise pays the percentage of attendance benefit for which you are eligible.  If you are responsible for a percentage of your tuition, please contact Student Services at 694-5467 to make arrangements for payment. (Ex. You have attended an eligible public school for 9 years.  Your attendance benefit covered by Peoria Promise would be 80%; the remaining 20% is your responsibility.)

How long will I receive Peoria Promise funds?
Peoria Promise will pay a maxium of 64 hours toward the completion of a degree/certificate to be used within a 3 year period.  You must maintain all requirements: 2.0 or greater GPA each term of enrollment, complete 67% of your classes with a grade of C or higher, complete 6 hours or more per semester, complete applications by deadlines, and write a thank you letter.

What if I decide not to attend ICC right after graduating from high school?
You have up to two years to take advantage of Peoria Promise.  For example, if you graduate in May of 2009, you have until April 1 of 2011 to apply for the scholarship online and to ICC, and to FAFSA by June 1, for classes beginning in August.

Does the Peoria Promise Scholarship cover the cost of books?
No. The Peoria Promise Scholarship will cover tuition only.

Do I have to be a full-time student in order to get Peoria Promise?
No.  You only need to maintain and successfully complete 6 hours or more each semester in order to be eligible for Peoria Promise.  However, please note that most students need to be full-time in order to be covered under their parents’ health insurance. Peoria Promise will pay for a maximum of 12 hours each semester for eligible students.

What if I decide not to attend after I’ve signed up for classes?
If you decide not to attend ICC after signing up for classes, you must officially drop your classes before the drop date (the drop date is two weeks after classes have started), or you will be financially obligated for the tuition.

Will Peoria Promise cover tuition for Dual Credit Courses?
No.  Students must have graduated from a qualifying high school.

Will summer classes be covered by Peoria Promise?
Yes.  However, students must attend ICC in the previous spring semester in order to qualify for Peoria Promise funds to be used during the summer semester.

Is a new application required every year?
Yes, you much complete the online scholarship application and FAFSA each year. Please note that you must maintain the scholarship’s criteria.
